African Americans have made tremendous contributions to this Nation, and specifically to the White House, since the beginning of its time. On August 24, 1814, in a war seeking independence from Britain, the White House was set ablaze and torched to the ground. Stone by stone, African American slaves worked relentlessly in efforts to rebuild the home for the "Leader of the free world." Black History IS American history. From Frederick Douglass to our 44th President Barack Obama, each month in this 2019 calendar highlights and educates using tribulations, and triumphs of our community which exemplify the journey From Slavery to the White House.
